How it all began...

 

 

BATCH is an Organic, Sustainable, and Transparent Skin Care and Candle Company. 

 

      I suffered from allergies and skin irritations for decades. 17 years ago I decided to change my diet by eliminating all dairy products, and within one year the severity of my sinus problems reduced dramatically. This changed my quality of life and I knew I could figure out what was causing some of my skin irritations.  I eventually learned more about synthetic oils, chemicals, and processed ingredients in our food and skin care, and I decided to do something about it.

 

       Fortunately, my sister in-law knew how to make natural soaps and offered to teach me. One day in a small apartment in Brooklyn, I learned the basics to Cold Process soap making.  Shortly after I began making small batch recipes using only certified Organic oils and herbs. I experimented until I found one exceptional batch, which helped my irritations, and my skin actually felt moisturized. 

 

       Friends & family learned of my Organic homemade soap bars and tried them out. They too felt the difference compared to the conventional soap they were using, and made the switch!  The homemade hobby turned into a demanding hobby, and soon BATCH organic soaps was open for business!

       We have been in business for over 4 years now, and it's been an evolution of discovery and truth seeking.  We were vegetarian before starting BATCH, and I soon went Vegan after researching the history and ingredient origins and the environmental affects of paying for those ingredients.  We transitioned all of the products to vegan cruelty-free, but the reality of packaging the products in compostable and reusable containers and manufacturing them using only certified organic ingredients to formulate was not a profitable business, because what we would need to charge was not affordable to most people and in turn we could not pay ourselves anything for all the work if we charged less.  Further, maintaining inventory on 29 unique products made it impossible to even break even at the increased prices, and not many customers continued to purchase.

We then transitioned to only making 1/2 or full batches at a time available for home or business, but we lost most of our customers even though the per unit cost was much lower when buying a years worth of product at a time.

Lastly, my one of my very best friends from childhood passed away and this event sent me much quicker down the path I was already on, to having a stronger relationship with our Creators, with God, with the Universe.  I completed a 7 day Water Fast, which means only water for 7 days and nights.  

​

The result was transformative, cleansing, and provided clarity to how I must let The Creators work through me and allow them to guide me vs. me guiding myself even if my intention was good and had passion, business is always about financial goals and gains.

The end result here, is following a Plant Based Vegan Lifestyle for 3 years and completing the Fast, it became clear our need for many things is a result of how we are living and what we are eating and drinking.  And the need for oils, soaps, moisturizers and candles is unnecessary, our bodies are designed to be cleaned with fresh water only; given a clean Plant Based Diet.

       After numerous requests for a non-drying liquid soap formulated with only certified Organic oils and extracts I began experimenting to create a Castile hand & body wash that would not dry out your skin and would actually cleanse gently without additives, fillers, acids, alcohols, and synthetic ingredients.  It took nearly 1 year of many unsuccessful batches before the BATCH Castile Hand & Body Wash was perfected and introduced.  It has literally changed people's lives.     

 

      Both of us are avid Organic gardeners and produce a small vegetable garden each year for ourselves and our two boys Noah and Theo who love to pick cucumbers, tomatos, blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries right from the plants and eat them.  We formulate these products for ourselves and our children.

 

     With many infants and toddlers suffering from various skin irritations, we believe that a Plant Based diet with Organic Vegetables, Fruit, Nuts, Seeds, and herbs have most of everything we need to alleviate and clear up these skin conditions.  We've seen it with our youngest son who had minor eczema and sometimes severe diaper rash. In severe cases using The Organic Mommy and baby skin cream with Organic Jojoba oil infused with Organic herbs soothed and cleared up the affected areas.  It is important to completely avoid gluten, animal and fish meat, dairy, and sugar.

 

      Most of our products have 5 or less ingredients, and we use only Organic vegetable oils, Organic essential oils, and Organic herbs. They are free of GMOs, animal products, animal testing, and no synthetic oils, fragrances, alcohols, parabens, and petroleum!

 

      We also pay close attention to our packaging, because with selling products on a larger scale now, that typcially means producing more garbage. And plastics can take 100 to 1,000 years to biodegrade, so we use biodegradable and compostable packaging for the soap bars, salves, tattoo and lip balms. The lip balms are capable of fully biodegrading in a composter in 14 days.  Anything that contains liquids we use recyclable and reusable glass containers.
